Mark Pinto, Secretary Treasurer, is proud to serve his first term as TMA Secretary/Treasurer as well as being a charter member of the Boston Chapter He is in his 17th year as Secretary/Treasurer of the Boston Musicians’ Association, Local 9-535. Mark is a woodwind doubler in Boston, MA and has played in the theater for the past 25 years.

Walt Bostian, Director for Boston, has played trombone and bass trombone in all the major theaters of Boston and all over New England.  He has also performed with ensembles ranging from Boston Ballet and Boston Lyric Opera to Boston ska institution Bim Skala Bim.  He is a member of the Local 9-535 Theater Committee.

Valerie Maze, Director for Chicago

Pianist, Music Director, and Conductor Valerie Maze has played in theatres and opera houses across the country, including  Drury Lane Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Writers Theatre, Marriott Theatre, and Music Theater Works. At Lyric Opera of Chicago, in addition to serving as Assistant Conductor and Dance Pianist for numerous operas over the past 15 years, Valerie has served as Assistant Conductor for Lyric’s Music Theatre Initiative on My Fair Lady, The King and I, Carousel, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma! and Showboat. Active as a a recitalist, Valerie has performed on WFMT as part of the Dame Myra Hess Series and on WGN TV, playing for artists such as Kate Baldwin, Paolo Montalban, Billy Zane, and Steven Pasqual. Valerie is grateful to be serving the theatre community in this way.

Walter Usiatynski, Broadway Director

As a Broadway musician, Walter chaired the Local 802 Broadway Theatre Committee for 8 years, becoming TMA Broadway Director in 2010. In 2012 Walter became TMA Vice President, serving until 2017. In his tenure he has chaired negotiating committees for Local 802 and has served on negotiating committees for Pamphlet B. Walter returns to TMA as Broadway Director in order to stay involved and to serve theatre musicians nationally.

Paul Castillo, Director from Southern California, is a woodwind player and clarinet specialist. He has been President of the TMA SoCal Chapter since 2011 and has twice served as Vice-President of the National TMA; from 2010 to 2011, and more recently from 2016 to 2017.

Jeff Martin, Director for Phoenix, is serving his first year as Phoenix Chapter Director. He has been a member of AFM for 38 years, and TMA since the inception of the Phoenix Chapter. He is a freelance bass trombonist who has played for many of the Broadway shows coming through the Phoenix area over the years. He is looking forward to being of service to his fellow musicians in this new role.

Mark Berger

Mark Berger is low wind specialist in the Detroit area, including saxophones, clarinets, flutes, and bassoon. Mark studied music at Wayne State University and has been playing professionally for over 40 years, performing frequently as a member of The Fox Theater Orchestra, The Fisher Theater Orchestra, and The Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with some of the most respected names in the music industry including: Dizzy Gillespie, Idina Menzel, B.B. King, Cab Calloway, Doc Severinson, The Who, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Recording credits include J.C. Heard Orchestra, The Temptations, Four Tops, and Aretha Franklin.

David Philippus, Director for Las Vegas, is a free-lance trombonist in Las Vegas Nevada, and the newly elected Vice President of the Las Vegas TMA Chapter. David, along with the help of Michael Manley and Angela Chan, was part of the motivating forces to develop the Las Vegas Chapter of the TMA. David served his first two years as Secretary-Treasurer of the chapter. Now in his third year of service, the Las Vegas Chapter has grown to 17 members and looks forward to more members in the years to come.

Patrick Plunk, Director for Washington DC and Baltimore area

Patrick Plunk, Director for Washington DC and Baltimore area for Since 2004, Patrick has performed as a woodwind player at the major theaters in the Washington DC and Baltimore areas as well as major venues such as the Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. He was instrumental in helping to spearhead an organizing campaign that resulted in union recognition and implementation of a union contract at one of the region’s oldest theaters. In addition to these roles, Patrick serves on the executive board for the D.C. Federation of Musicians, local AFM 161-710. He looks forward to representing the musicians of the greater Washington DC and Baltimore area.

Lovie Smith-Wright Director for the Membership-at-Large

Lovie Smith-Wright, Director for the Membership-at-Large, has performed in the Houston, Wichita, KS and Seattle, WA, area for many years as an orchestral percussionist and a member of the Theatre Under the Stars Orchestra since 1984. She is proud to be serving as the Director for the Membership-at-Large and she also served as co-Director in 2013. She has been President of The Houston Professional Musicians Association, Local 65-699, A.F.M. since 2003, and is currently the Secretary/ Treasurer of the Southern Conference of the American Federation of Musicians, past President of the Southern Conference 2007-2009; on the Board of Trustees for the AmericanFederation of Musicians Employers Pension Fund from 2006-2010. She has been a member of the AFM Diversity Committee since 2003 and is an alternate delegate for the AFl-CIO for the AFM.

Angela Chan Director for Travelers

Angela Chan, Director for Travelers, has toured as a keyboard player and Associate Conductor on various shows throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico. She currently resides in Las Vegas where she is a freelance keyboard player on many of the shows on the Las Vegas Strip. She is one of the original members and currently the Vice President of the Las Vegas Chapter of the TMA. A proud member of the AFM for 13 years, Angela is excited to be serving on the board of TMA and looks forward to representing her fellow touring musicians!

Tom Mendel – Pit Bulletin Editor, has been playing bass in pits since 1978. Tom is pleased to be serving in his 6th term as Pit Bulletin Editor. Tom is honored to have served five term as TMA President He has also served as Vice President (2 terms) and Director for Chicago (3 terms). Tom served as President of TMA-Chicago Area Chapter (6 terms) its Vice President (2 terms) and also as a Director (3 terms). He has been a TMA member since the Chicago Chapter started. Tom is deeply honored to be a President Emeritus of TMA.

Tony D’Amico, President Emeritus, has served 8 terms as TMA Director for Boston as well as President of the Boston Chapter of TMA. He has served on negotiating committees and is a member of the local 9-535 theater committee. Tony is also on the Board of Directors for the Boston Musicians Association. He plays bass for touring productions in the major theaters of Boston and throughout the New England area.
